Jews Engaged in Clearing Up the Ruins

The 15th City District reported to the Technical Directorate on the activities conducted on 17th and 18th May 1941. Twenty nine Jews, 18 forced laborers and 24 volunteers were engaged on 17th May, while on the 18th May 30 Jews, 18 detainees and 4 volunteers cleared up the ruins in the district area.

Jews Could Not Be Left Out From the Lists Of Engaged Workers

The head of the 2nd City District responded to the Firefighting Command regarding its request to leave out Jaša G. Zumbulović, Isak Levi and Mordekaj Todelano from the list of workers (the name crossed), that no Jews could be left out from the lists of workers, except in the cases when irreplaceable in companies or factories, in line with the order of the German authorities.

Jews Forwarded to the Tašmajdan on 15th June 1941

The Second District of the Administration of the City of Belgrade reported to the Technical Directorate of the Belgrade Municipality on clearing the ruins, excavating the corpses and rehabilitating other consequences of the bombardment. The report highlighted the lack of work force, i.e. all the Jews who were forwarded on 15th June to the Commissariat to the Tašmajdan never returned to work.

The head of the 6th City District informed the Department for Jews that among the Jewish workers were no boot makers nor tailors who would be engaged in manufacturing boots and uniforms for officers. He pointed out that they had Avram Elijas among the Jews but he was specialized in tailoring male suits.
