The Quarantine in Aleksinac Informed on People Travelling to Belgrade

The Quarantine in Aleksinac communicated to the Administration of the Town of Belgrade regarding the arrival of Mevra Halderov to Belgrade from Niš, his 20-day stay in Belgrade, at his brother Moša‘s house, for a trade business. The Quarantine also confirmed the arrival of Berha Josifov from Bucharest, who would be practicing a tailoring in Belgrade, likewise the arrival of Simon Ilić, a Jew from Constantinople, who was visiting his brother Mihel.

Tax Collection from Bosnian Jews Living in Belgrade

At the request of Bosnian Wali, the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs requested the Administration of the Town of Belgrade to collect taxes from the Jews who were Turkish subjects but were at that moment staying in Belgrade. From all the persons on the list, the Administration found only two Jews: Avram Judić and Isak Pardonić.

Theft in a House of David Nisim

The police investigated the jewellery theft that occurred to David Nisim‘s wife Bohora in their house. The Jewish maiden Sumha, a daughter of Jakov Lazarević, was the main suspect. She was acquitted from the guilt due to the lack of evidence.

The Administration of the Town of Belgrade investigated and accordingly reached a decision regarding the money gambling of Izrajel David Adut and Solomon Štajner in the tavern of Jakov David Zaharije. All three of them were punished financially.

Correspondence of the Belgrade Town Court and the Administration of the Town of Belgrade regarding the lawsuit Toma Stojanović, a tailor, had filed against Isak Pinkas, a merchant, over debt. Due to the lack of means, the Administration collected the debt from Mišulan Koen, a guarantor of Isak Pinkas.

Taxes Paid by Jews Who Moved Away From Belgrade

The Jewish Community informed the Administration of the Town of Belgrade that several members of the Community had moved away from Belgrade and accordingly they paid their taxes in those towns to which they had moved. Jakov and his son moved to Kragujevac, Jakov Arueti to Požarevac and Moša Pesah to Smederevo. The Administration communicated the headquarters in Požarevac and Smederevo to confirm those statements.

Tax Collection from the Members of Jewish Community

The Jewish Community requested the Administration of the Town of Belgrade to provide tax-exempt status for certain members of the Community who weren‘t able to pay the taxes. The documentation included the letters of the Smederevo District Office and Kruševac District Office requesting to be informed whether Jakov Aroeti and Jakov Jozefović were paying taxes.
