Jakov Ruso and Jozef Eskenazi Bankrupted

Correspondence of the Belgrade Town Court and the Administration of the Town of Belgrade regarding the bankruptcy of Jakov Ruso and his partner Jozef Eskenazi. Their property had been banned and inventoried, therefore Leon Eskinazi, from Vienna, gave a guarantees that his brother Jozef would not leave the country prior to the completion of the lawsuit with the creditors.

Jakov Eskenazi Sentenced For Theft

The Administration of the Town of Belgrade informed the Belgrade Town Court regarding the accusations against Jakov Eskenazi for having stolen some goods from the shop of Ratko Nikolić and for purchasing 14 stolen scarves from Lijačo Karaoglanović. The Court sentenced Eskinazi with 25 strokes for both misdeeds he had commited and ordered him to compensate for stolen goods.

The Zaječar County Court requested the Administration of the Town of Belgrade to deliver to Jakov Ruso the lawsuit filed against Janko Trifunović from Negotin, over debt, in order to assert if the lawsuit was his. If Ruso asserted, the Administration was to inform him that the Krajina County Court had the authority in that matter.

Jurisdictions of Jewish Community

The Belgrade Town Court requested the Administration of the Town of Belgrade to report if the Jewish Community had legal representatives who could validly represent it. The Administration reported that Jewish Community was independent regarding its schools, churches, hospitals and social care for its poor members, but decisions beyond these were not allowed without authorities approval. Accordingly, the Court requested the Administration to forward the representatives of the Jewish Community and Čelebon Suzin who sold his house and Avram and Jakov Maulam, who bought his house.
